Possibility to know the oldest sector in the city, where they meet the monuments with bigger historical content that still maintains the stamp of another time.
Pedestrian journey of 12 blocks, included visits to museums and monuments. To carry out in 2 hours.
 

Formerly called Cathedral to the South, then neighborhood of Montserrat and for many only South Neighborhood, era seat of the residences of the most outstanding families in the city, as well as of the temples and institutions settled down in the stage fundacional and viceregal. Also the main stocks for the reconquest of Buenos Aires, when the English invasions, took place here.

When the yellow fever pest punished Buenos Aires in 1871 (with the excuse of looking for healthier airs) it becomes massive the exodus toward the north area of the city that had already begun before years. It loses this neighborhood from then on their residential status and their decline begins. The old houses, become tenancies, will house part of the great massof inmigrants that arrived to the country for that time then. Maybe in and of itself it maintained the sector (at least partly) their original character. Places of the same one are nowadays area of historical preservation. The Walk begins in Plaza de Mayo and Defense. Walking for this until the corner of Alsina, to the right is the old house The High of Elorriaga.

The Plazoleta of the Statues is for the left sidewalk of Defense, it takes place in this plazoleta the Fair of the Arts, where plastic artists expose and they sell their drawings, engravings and paintings.

Crossing the street Alsina consents to the atrium of Church Basilica of San Francisco

In the Southwest corner of Alsina and Defense, a house of two plants, of 1898, harbors in plant it lowers the Star's Pharmacy.

For Defense 412 you consents to the high plant of the house, where it has headquarters the Museum of the City of Buenos Aires.

Continue for Alsina until Bolívar the old one remains silent University where will be able to travel the Manzana de las Luces.

With this name referred to their condition of center intellectual it is known to the understood apple among the streets Peru, Alsina, Bolívar and Moreno. Their history began in 1661 when Jesus' Company moved here from its primitive place in the current Plaza de Mayo.

The Jesuit built in this apple up to 1767, year in that were expelled by the king from Spain, The name Apple of the lights is due to the name with which the periodic Argus baptized her in 1822. The Company built the numerous buildings of its several institutions here, of which some have arrived until today. The first one is San Ignacio's Church.

To continue for Alsina to Peru to visit in Peru 222 the Antique University of Buenos Aires.

Next to this building, on Peru, there is a great paved patio, from where the oldest constructions and the old observatory are appreciated that had the University. In this place, visit a colorful Fair of the Arts,

Meters further on, in Peru 274, consent to the building where it is the Court of Representatives.

In this visit one will be able to know, also, it leaves of the extensive net of tunnels that ran under this sector of the city, built with military purposes in the XVIII century; they crossed I lower this apple two of them, one in south north address and the other east west. Many were used then for the practice of the smuggling, very popular activity in times of the colony. Continue for Moreno passing Defense, to visit in Moreno 340 the Museum Ethnographic Juan B. Ambrosetti .

Returning to street Defense, in the N° 372, the House of the Defense that today is the National Museum of the Engraving and later on, in the N° 350, it is the House of Rivadavia.

Continuing for Defense and crossing the Av. Belgrano, it will consent to the atrium of Sacred Domingo's Basilica .

To continue the Walk lowering for Av. Belgrano. It will find the Passage 5 of Julio, open during the presidency of Rivadavia through the cemetery of the Convent. On him they give the funds of the current combined dominico.

To turn to the right when arriving to Balcarce, and ascend now for Venezuela to know the House of Liniers.

Here it finishes this Walk; it is the opportunity to visit the gastronomic repertoire of this area, or to continue the circuit for San Telmo.

For the interested parties, and although it is more far from the South Neighborhood in Av. Independence and Salta we recommend a visit, for their historical importance, to the House of Spiritual Exercises.
