In the Cordovan landscape the plains, the mountains and the valleys converge. The Cordovan geography almost presents two thirds of its territory with plain areas, included a part of the humid pampas, of the plain chaqueña and the western plains. Then Pampeanas rises until the foot of the mountainous chains belonging to the system of the Mountains.

Although the plain is very uniform, it presents extensive depressions that give place to two important formations, a the great salted lagoon of Mar Chiquita and the other one the extensive half-deserted plain Salinas Grandes, covered with salt; both located in the northwest end of the region. Also, mention of the area of lands low anegadizos of the south end should be made: plain of the Carlota and the surroundings of the lagoon La Amarga. To the west of the county they are distinguished three mountainous reliefs that integrate the most southern cord in the Mountains Pampeanas, clearly under the name of Mountains of Córdoba. It occupies the sixth part of the territory, being guided of north-south, their oriental faldeos has characteristic soft on the contrary of the Westerners (abrupt), corresponding to the Mountains Pampeanas.

They conform it three main chains:

Small mountains (Oriental Cord): with a longitude of 400 Km, from their south end, formed by the Sierra de los Condores, until going out of the county in the limit with Santiago del Estero. The part of this chain that takes Sierra Chica name composes it the cord from the hill Pajarillo (to the north of Capilla del Monte ) to the riverside of the river Tercero for the south. Of the hill Pajarillo toward the north is divided in several brunches, denominated Mountains of the North that finish surpassing the limit with the county of Santiago of Estero. To the south of River Tercero, continue and it is divided in two small cords: the Sierra de los Condores and that de la Peñas. The maximum height is in the hill Uritorco, of 1.979 msn.

Big mountains (Central Cord): It extends from north to south, in an extension of 327 Km, it separates it of the previous chain the valley of Punilla and Calamuchita. It stands out in the central sector the biggest height in the county: the Champaquí with 2.790 msn. From this hill to the south expands the called chain Sierra of Comechingones. Between the Champaquí and the Giants the Sierra of Achala extends, with his highland The Pampas of Achala. To the south, in the cord of the Sierra of Comechingones they are the hills of The Bag (2.260msn), The Sheep (2.206 msn), Uspara (1.620 msn) and The Moor (1.396 msn)

Western mountains: near to the limit west of Córdoba, they are separated from the Sierras Grandes for the valley of the Pampas de Pocho. They are three oriented chains of denominated north-south Serrezuela, Sierra of Guasapampa and Sierra de Pocho. They extend from Tip of the Sierra, near the Salinas Grandes, until the vicinity of Villa Dolores for the south. The most representative heights are in Serrezuela, with 1.000 m of height the hill The Rough one, and in the Sierra of Guasapampa the hill Good Herb with 1.650 meters.

Hydrography

It characterizes it the great abundance of rivers, streams and slopes, lagoons and numerous reservoirs that have given an outstanding energy source to the county with the use of the dikes. The main basins are those that has their nascent ones in the Big Mountains: the river Suquía, also denominated First that is born of the fork of the rivers Cosquín and San Roque. After crossing the city of Córdoba, it follows direction Southwest-northwest and it ends their waters in the Tiny lagoon of Sea. The river Xanaes, or I laugh Second, it is born of the fork of the rivers The Mills and Arizacate. It has the parallel course to the river Suquía but of more longitude. It picks up the waters of the Dike The Mills, built on their course and dedicated to obtain electric power. Their flow is used for watering supply and cattle raising.

That of the river Third, at the moment denominated Calamuchita, Santa Rosa is born of the fork of the rivers, Big and Chapel of the Cruz to go toward the east and then to return lightly toward the north to enter in the mountain of the Condors. When crossing the Oriental cord it was dammed the waters of the river forming one of the biggest domestic artificial lakes. They compose it six reservoirs of those that stand out that of Peeled Hill, Third and Moorish Stones. In their inferior tract it twists abruptly toward the Southeast receiving for their right margin the river Saladillo that is the inferior course of the river Room.

That of the river Room, at the moment denominated Chocancharava, it picks up the waters that throw on the mountain of Comechingones in a front of 40 Km. It possesses four main tributaries: of the Barrrancas, of San Bartolo, of the Tapas and of Stone Blanca. It travels about 25 Kms of existent distance among the cords Power station and Oriental. Until the Carlota their course is parallel to the river Third, but after that town it twists toward the NE, forming the lagoon of Elm trees and then taken a bath taken place by the expansion of the bed and reduction of the slope in whose form travels 60 Km, it stops then to be narrowed again and to take the name of Saladillo that conserves until the outlet in the river Third.

The basin constituted by the rivers Third and Room, united the Carcaraña forms. The basin of the river embraces the center of the county and a thin traverse strip in the county of Santa Faith, ending in the Paraná. It occupies an extensive plain that becomes soft waves toward the west and then in mountains. Coming from San Luis, is the basin of the river Popopis, river Fifth that drains in a series of having taken a bath as that of The Bitter one. Traveling the valley of Traslasierra, is the basin of the river of the Sallows, in which is the Reservoir The Vineyard. The lagoon Sea Girl, is of tectonic origin, located to the northeast of the county the waters of the rivers they arrive I Left or Dulce, Primero and Segundo.
