This population is departmental head and center of services of a department of prosperous properties and stays. Their formation originated in 1612, with the mission Jesuit of The Grove, established next to an establishment, aborigine.
As the whole valley, their development was slowed by the malones coming from the south and its poblamiento only began to consolidate at the end of the XVIII century, with the campaigns of Amigorena and Fort San Carlos.
In 1776, already as vice parish, it defined their function of territorial center officialized administratively in 1858 when being decreed village head with their current name.
